Delphine Strait (Strait) Snook

September 9, 1905 — July 18, 2014

Delphine Strait Snook, age 108, of Ottawa, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014, at Pleasant View.

At her wishes, there will be no visitation, and private graveside services will be held at Ottawa Avenue Cemetery.    Gladfelter Funeral Home is honored to handle arrangements.

Delphine was born September 9, 1905 in Ottawa, a daughter of Burton Emra and Harriett (Suehr) Strait.  She married Walter Leslie Snook October 6, 1951 in Arkansas.  He preceded in death March 4, 1977.  She is survived by a cousin, Myrna (Strait) Baker and her husband Terrell of Belmond, Iowa; a step-daughter-in-law, Rogene Snook of Ottawa; eight step-grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy, Harriett and Josephine; a brother, Everett; and step-sons, Walter (Lida) Snook and David Snook.

Delphine was a 1924 graduate of Ottawa Township High School.  She became a certified school teacher and began her career in 1928 as the childrens librarian at Reddick Library, retiring in 1951.  She was a former president of the Ottawa Womens Club and was a member of the Christian Science Society of Peru.  Delphine enjoyed gardening and crocheting several afghans for friends and relatives.
