David L. Simmons, age 65, of Ottawa, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Private family services will be held. Gladfelter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
David was born January 6, 1948 near Verona, Illinois, a son of M. H.”Slim” and Meredith Irene (Rivers) Simmons. He married Phyllis Anderson April 23, 1976 in Ottawa. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis; children, Rachel Mangers of Oswego and Charles Simmons at home. He also leaves brothers, Lawrence (Marilyn) Simmons, Kenneth (Mary) Simmons, Richard Simmons and Michael (Kay) Simmons all of Streator, Ron (Donna) Simmons of Ottawa and Daniel Simmons of Ft. Worth, TX; sisters, Beverly Simmons of Ottawa, Deborah (Daniel) Gualandi, Vicki Zulz and MaryJane “Janie” Bade all of Wenona; as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Lora “Tony Rehor” Wright; and family friends Dustin Cook and Megan Payne and her daughter all of Ottawa. David’s parents, a brother, Mildard Simmons and a sister, Linda Simmons preceded him in death.
David had been employed as a driver for Johnson Pattern and Machine and Nabisco. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge and was an honorary member of the Variety Riders. David treasured time spent with his family and friends. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
