David E. Harden, 70, of Ottawa, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Rivershores Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Funeral services honoring his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Rev. Duane Kaufman and Rev. Peter Brick officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10:30 to service time Tuesday at the funeral home. David was born April 24, 1939 at Marseilles, Illinois, a son of Benjamin Franklin and Hettie Marie (Hicks) Harden. He is survived by two sons, David E. Harden, Jr. and Christopher Lee Harden both of Ottawa; two brothers, George W. (Barbara) Harden and Daniel Lee (Judy) Harden all of Ottawa; and a sister, Lila (Vernon) Distin of Ottawa. He also leaves four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His parents, a daughter, Carmen Theresa Hoffman and two brothers, Kenneth M. and Howard Eugene Harden preceded him in death. David owned and operated Dave's Body Shop in Ottawa and was later employed at Carlson Auto Body. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1957 and was a member of the Moose Lodge. David enjoyed bowling, automobiles and playing his guitar. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
