OTTAWA – Captain Christopher Cowan, age 47, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Loyola University Medical Center.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10th at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Father Mike Driscoll officiating. There will be no visitation.
Christopher was born October 12, 1968 in Ottawa, a son of Dr. D.L. and Christine (Muskievicz) Cowan. He is survived by a son, Aaron Scully of Peoria; his siblings, Dr. Gregory (Mary) Cowan of Mt. Sterling, Karen Cowan (Adel Khoija) of Ottawa, Timothy Cowan of Pittsburgh, PA, Rebecca Beardsly of Earlville, Joseph Cowan of LaSalle and Nicole Cowan of Marseilles; and his lifelong friend, Chris “Duff” Johnson of Batavia. Christopher was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Catherine and Victoria Cowan.
An avid boater who truly loved the water, Christopher was the Captain of the “Belle of the Rock” operated by Starved Rock Adventures. He was a former Captain of the LaSalle I&M Canal Boat and a former member of the Starved Rock Yacht Club. Christopher was a very optimistic, fun loving and outgoing man. He was very much a “people person” and known for his laughter and laughter he brought to the lives of others.
