Charles A. "Bud" Swanson

March 11, 1926 — May 24, 2011

Charles A. "Bud" Swanson, 85, of Rutland Township, passed away Tuesday evening, May 24, at Ottawa Regional Hospital. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28th, at St. Columba Cemetery with Reverend Philip D. Halfacre officiating. Full military rites will be accorded. There will be no visitation. Gladfelter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Mr. Swanson was born March 11, 1926, in Utica, a son of Elmer and Charlotte (Emrich) Swanson. He married Marjorie A. "Peg" Twohey November 14, 1953, at St. Patrick's Church in Ottawa. He is survived by his wife, Peg, of Rutland Township; a son, Larry Swanson, of Ottawa; a daughter, Angela (Juan) Salce of Ottawa; two grandchildren, Justin Seibert and Meggan (Nicholas Lyle) Williams; and a great granddaughter, Josalyn Lyle. He was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Krizel. Bud served in the 4th Division of the U.S. Marine Corps. in the South Pacific during WWII and was a veteran of the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was employed in the trucking industry and worked for several companies during his career, including Scherer Freight Lines, Service Transportation Lines, and ANR. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. and was a retired member of the Teamsters Union. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Patrick's Church, the Ottawa Scouting Museum, or a charity of the donor's choice.
