Charles Fred Schleevogt

Charles "Chuck" Schleevogt, age 87, of Eden Prairie, Minn., formerly of Ottawa, Ill., died Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at home. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16th at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Garry Briescher officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the services. Gladfelter Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. Charles Schleevogt was born July 1, 1920, in Joliet, Ill., to Charles and Olga Schleevogt. He graduated from Ottawa High School in 1938, and from the University of Illinois in 1943, with a degree in accounting. While at college, he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity and after graduating was a member of the Illini Alumni Club. During World War II, he served in Europe as a captain of the Transportation Corp from 1943-1946. He was a Railway Transportation officer in France, Luxembourg, and Germany, and had a part in the funeral ceremony for General George Patton. From 1946-1996, Charles was in the Title Insurance Business and was president and owner of LaSalle County Title Company. He was active in Illinois Land Title Association and also American Land Title Association. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was a trustee and was on various boards and committees. He was a member of the Trinity men's breakfast prayer group and also attended Trinity Bible Study group. In addition, he was a member of Kiwanis Club for over 50 years. He was also on the YMCA board of directors and board of trustees and was active in the YMCA Capital Campaign fund. He was also active in United Way activities, was a member of the Ottawa Boat Club, and was one of the founders of the Greater Ottawa Association. For a hobby, Charles grew orchids and was a member of the American Orchid Society. He is survived by his widow, LaVerne Schleevogt and three children, Pat Rosborough (Dr. Terry) Bloomington, Minn.; Dr. Mary (Dr. Miles Belgrade) Schleevogt, Stillwater, Minn.; and Dr. Charles(Linda Adams) Schleevogt, Sheboygan, Wisc. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Kristen Rosborough, Sonja Belgrade, Andrea Belgrade, Karl Schleevogt, and Michelle Schleevogt. His parents, Charles and Olga Johnson Schleevogt, preceded him in death. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, the Ottawa YMCA, or Pleasant View Lutheran Home.
