Burtt J. Hertzner, age 88, of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the Ottawa Pavilion. Services with Military Honors will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at Oakwood Memorial Park with Rev. Philip Halfacre officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Gladfelter Funeral Home. Burtt was born April 16, 1922 at Ottawa, Illinois, a son of Burtt M. and Catherine (Gorman) Hertzner. He married Bertha M. Marek July 3, 1948 at Ottawa. She preceded him in death October 10, 1997. Surviving are his children, Richard (Cheryl) Hertzner, Phyllis (David) Olle and Claire "Penney" Yedinak all of Ottawa. His parents; two children, Patricia Garland and Janet McKnight; four brothers, Merle, Kenneth, Albert and Joe Hertzner; and a sister, Catherine Novakovich preceded in death. Burtt had been employed as a driver by Strong and Strong. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Burtt enjoyed woodworking, gardening and working in his yard.
