Betty J. Wold, age 85, of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday June 27, 2012 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Gladfelter Funeral Home with the Reverend Duane Kaufman officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to service time Saturday. Pallbearers will be Andrew Wold and Jerry Wold, Joseph and Nicholas Frye, Corey Flashing and John Rimstidt. The organist will be Eldon Wold, Jr.
Betty was born May 24, 1927 on a farm in North Dakota, the daughter of Harry and Maggie (See) Henry. She married Captain Elwood O. “Buck” Wold April 5, 1952 in Ft. Lee, Virginia. He preceded her in death September 17, 1989. Surviving are her children, Edwin Wold of Streator, Scott (Marianne) Wold of Ottawa and Judy (Richard) Frye of Marseilles; daughter-in-law, Alice Wold of Ottawa; grandchildren, Lauren (Corey) Flashing, Kathleen Wold and Andrew Wold, Jessica, Joseph and Nicholas Frye; and a great-granddaughter, Michaela Flashing. Her parents and a brother John C. “Jack” Henry preceded her in death.
Betty was a homemaker. She lived in Alaska, California and Arizona prior to coming to Ottawa. She had been employed at Carson Pirie Scott, Fashion Bug and in the lunch room at McKinley Grade School. She enjoyed time with her family and deeply treasured her grandchildren. Betty was a member of the Wedron VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, counted cross stitch, camping, bowling and tap dancing in her leisure time. Memorial contributions may be directed to Easter Seals, Pet Project or the Ottawa Fire Department Ambulance Service.
