Ben Alexander Goodin passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
He was born on June 16,1941 to Benjamin Austin and Helen Alexander Goodin.
After graduating from Lawrenceville High School, he attended Johns Hopkins and went on to teach English literature at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Ben soon developed an interest in law and went on to Westminster College and St. Louis University of Law. After graduating law school and passing the bar exam, he practiced law for many law firms in Chicago before ending in Aurora, IL where he remained until his retirement from law in 2016. After moving to LaSalle County, Ben decided to be a substitute teacher and absolutely loved teaching at his favorite schools, Grand Ridge, Rutland, Wallace and Seneca. From an early age, Ben developed a passion for reading, especially Chaucer, anything about World War II, and because of his Scottish heritage, anything relating to the Vikings! While reading was a passion of his, sailing and skiing were extremely important and he spent every hour he could doing both. Ben wanted to be remembered as the guy who did everything in life he wanted to do with no regrets.
Ben leaves behind his wife, Debbie, his sister Barbara Goodin Wilking, 2 nephews, a niece, his special fur babies Choco, Blanco and Sophie, his friends at Heritage Woods of Ottawa, LaSalle County Nursing Home, Vitas Hospice and his very special buddy Lorri.
A special memorial will be held at a later date.
Thank you to John, Vicki, Jordan and everyone at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home.
