Barbara Placida (Rodriguez) Baiz

OTTAWA – Barbara Placida Baiz, age 85, of Ottawa, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 A.M. Tuesday, March 1st at St. Columba Church with Reverend David Kipfer celebrating. Interment will follow in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 29th at Gladfelter Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Ryan, Brad and Brent Miller, Jordan Baiz, Bryan, Connor and Malorie Fowler.
Barb was born January 22, 1931 in Marseilles, Illinois, a daughter of Arnulfo and Alvina (Rodriguez) Rodriguez. She married Salvador J. Baiz, Jr. December 24, 1951at St. Joseph’s Church in Marseilles. He preceded her in death September 10, 2001. Surviving are her children, Cindy (Brian) Christmann of Ottawa, Cathy Fowler of Marseilles and Stephen Baiz of Ancona; grandchildren, Ryan, Brad and Brent Miller, Jordan Baiz, Connor, Malorie and Bryan Fowler; great-grandchildren, Micah Miller, Ethan, Sky, Ocean and Venecia Fowler; a brother Ruben (Pat) Rodriguez of Ottawa; several nieces and nephews; and her special friend, James “Cuzzin Jr.” Ventrice. She was preceded in death by one sister, Angela Padilla and her son in-law, Mark Fowler.
Barb was a member of St. Columba Church where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society and Guadalupana Society. She had been employed at the St. Columba School Cafeteria, McDonalds and Kroger’s North Store from which she retired in 1996. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and had been a Campfire Bluebird Leader. Barb loved sewing, quilting, salsa dancing, roller skating and making tortillas. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and cherished the time spent with her family. Memorial contributions to the family would be most appreciated.
