OTTAWA – Arthur Deane Brasgala, age 90, of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday morning, August 24, 2016, at his home.
Per his request, following cremation the family will celebrate Arthur’s life privately. Gladfelter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Arthur was born December 13, 1925 in Duluth, MN, the son of Conrad Arthur and Bertha (Haggen) Brasgala. He married Mary Hoskins September 10, 1982 in Minnesota. He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Ottawa; a daughter, Lynn Brasgala of Two Harbors, MN; a stepson, Brian (Buffy) Hoskins of Utica; his grandchildren, Bryanna and Bridgit Hoskins of Utica; a daughter in-law, Wanda Brasgala of Albuquerque NM; and a nephew, James (Lyn) Ludviksen of San Jose, CA. He was preceded in death by a son, John; a daughter, Betty Brasgala; a sister, Virginia Ludviksen; and two nieces, Karen Ludviksen and Barbara Ludviksen Osler.
Arthur was a member of the Ottawa Kiwanis Club. He proudly served his country in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was employed as a chief clerk of the Ore Docks for the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway, retiring in January of 1986 after 43 years of dedicated service. Arthur was an avid reader, especially on such topics as geography, history, architecture, and trains. He enjoyed traveling in Europe and the United States. He and Mary spent their honeymoon in Paris. Another hobby of Arthur’s was growing evergreens, many of which came from Minnesota. He loved his family and cherished time spent with them, especially with his two granddaughters. Arthur was a member of Life Fit and enjoyed his time spent there exercising and socializing.
